Greetings from the hospital

I have decided to drop a brief note on my blog to let you know how I am doing rather than trying to update all of my emails, facebook posts, etc., since this is this where most of my friends find out how we are doing. So please check here to get updates on me.

I am not doing well, to put it quite simply. This morning was one of considerable pain again. Plus trying to find ways to free up my bladder and bowel movements, and you can tell that life is one big bowl of cherries for me.

It just seems that life is tough right now. I am hallucinating from time to time and yesterday I really really wrestled with whether my life was coming to an end. I still feel that I have things that I want to do however. I am not ready to call it quits yet. But life is getting harder and harder to live and fighting yet another bout of pneumonia has stretched me. So please pray that I will be ready to go when God wants me to go.

We love you, Glenn. We can't begin to tell you everything you mean to us. It's sometimes a challenge for each of us to trust God with the outcome but we know that He loves you and we continue to hold you up to Him.

With prayers and tears,
Jim & Twyla for all of us

Glenn and Denita,
I have never experienced anything like what you are experiencing now. I know that there is nothing I can say to make it better - except what I say in prayer to the one who can surround you with His comfort and speak directly to your heart by His Spirit. I will be continuing to bring you before His throne.

My heart is with you and your family. I sincerely pray, as you have requested, that the Lord Jesus will speak His peace to your heart and make you feel ready to see Him in glory, if it is time for Him to take you home. I pray He will touch you and cause pains to cease somehow. Oh, Lord, we plead for your grace and mercy, standing upon your promise that You will never leave us nor forsake us in every situation. Please minister strength to the spirit man of your son and servant. Please, Lord Jesus. Remi

I just came across your blog today and have been reading through..I see that you are my brother in Christ and I am grieved in my heart over your suffering...but I will not look away from your pain, dear brother, for our Father and our Lord Jesus Christ does not look away. He is not a God far off...and surely Our Savior Jesus has bourne our griefs and carried our sorrows...I am praying for you much the same way as your friend Remi(I wrote it out and then afterward realized she had already typed out what I typed practically). I am subscribing to your blog here and will be watching to see what the Lord will do. Grace and peace to you Glen and family from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. ~Michelle M.

Dear Mrs. Penner,

I find myself in a similar situation as you do, and I hope that this comment will not be taken as being merely inquisitive or critical. It comes from someone in distress, as you must be.

So often, there is a high price to pay for palliative care. You relieve the symptoms, then this gives the cancer the permission to advance. Then you hit the next crisis, and the next, because you permitted the previous treatment to take place. Would you see this as being the case in Mr. Penner's situation?

Yet is there an alternative?

Would it be too forward of me to ask what you think has been moving Mr. Penner and yourself in his treatment? Perhaps he was guided by the recommendations of the doctors, or there was the desire to live as long as he might, or perhaps it was simply love for each other that hoped for the best? Or perhaps something I have not thought of?

Perhaps Mr. Penner himself might wish to comment, if he is strong enough.

Are these things that have been a part of your thinking?

Every blessing.

Mr. Penner - you continue to be in my prayers and as much as this could lead to utter happiness and joy for you, I am saddened to read this post.

I would like to thank you for your witness and example - you have allowed God to use you to touch lives and bring glory to His name!

God bless you and your family!!!

- Sandie

Praying daily for you and Denita and family. The Lord is holding you in His Almighty hand and we certainly don't understand His ways. You have walked with and through the suffering of those for whom you've been a voice.
With love and prayers,
